This project generates new information on social exclusion and deprivation in Australia with a focus on the impact of the recession caused by the global financial crisis on social disadvantage. It builds on previous ARC-funded research and contributes to a better understanding of the nature, cause and consequences of social disadvantage, placing Australia back at the forefront of international poverty research. The results will have specific significance for the social inclusion agenda and the broad range of government and non government collaborators to ensure that the findings promote inclusion by influencing policy and practice.
