Review of multi-agency child welfare initiatives (NSW Ombudsman)

Project Status: Archive
People Involved: kylie valentine, Fiona Hilferty
Research Areas: Policy Design, Impact & Evaluation
Funding Agency: NSW Ombudsman

This project will involve a comprehensive review of evaluations of the English language national and international literature about multi-agency working within the context of providing child protection services. Evaluations typically focus either on outcomes, or on describing success stories and promising practice. It is generally agreed, however, that although many multi-agency initiatives have been implemented internationally, very few have produced the significant successes that were anticipated. The focus of this review will therefore be on why these initiatives have not been successful. The review, similar to a meta-evaluation, will focus on the barriers of inter-agency working and the lessons that can be learnt from multiple child protection inquiries and research studies.
