Professor Shaver is a researcher in sociology and social policy.  Her research focuses on social inequality and the welfare state, including international comparative study, and she has a particular interest in gender and social policy. She recently completed an intellectual biography of Professor Jean Martin (1923-1979), a pioneer of Australian sociology and multicultural policy. She is currently editing the Handbook of Gender and Social Policy for Edward Elgar Publishing.  Professor Shaver is a former Deputy Director of the Social Policy Research Centre and Pro Vice-chancellor at the University of Western Sydney. She is a current member of the Australian Research Integrity Committee.
