SPRC Internship Program

The internship program enables senior undergraduate and postgraduate students from Australia and overseas to undertake unpaid placements in a leading multi-disciplinary policy research environment.  Interns will have unique opportunities to gain an understanding of social policy in a leading research environment; gain practical experience in research and evaluation; and develop their research and analytical skills.

Interns undertake a variety of research tasks, tailored where possible to suit their research interests and career goals. Tasks include literature reviews, drafting of reports, designing research instruments (eg surveys, interview schedules), assisting with fieldwork (eg focus groups); data entry and data analysis; and attending meetings with stakeholders (eg research partners in government; non-government welfare organisations, service providers). SPRC interns also attend the SPRC seminar series, and are encouraged to participate in other Centre activities.  The SPRC provides interns a work-space, computer and internet facilities, access to library resources and a collegial, supportive research culture., However we do not provide interns with financial support.

Three of the Centre's interns describe their experiences:
